I Promise Myself

I PROMISE MYSELF
by Christian D. Larson

To be so strong that nothing can disturb my peace of mind.

To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person I meet.

To make all my friends feel that there is something worthwhile in them.

To look at the sunny side of everything and make my optimism come true.

To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best.

To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as I am about my own.

To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.

To wear a cheerful expression at all times, and give a smile to every living creature I meet.

To give so much time improving myself that I have no time to criticize others.

To be to large for worry, to noble for anger, to strong for fear, and to happy to permit the presence of trouble.

To think well of myself and to proclaim this fact to the world, not in loud words, but in great deeds.

To live in faith that the whole world is on my side, so long as I am true to the best that is in me.

Gratitude Prayer

GRATITUDE PRAYER
   by Napoleon Hill

I give thanks daily, not for mere riches, but for wisdom with which to recognize, embrace and properly use the great abundance of riches, I now have at my command.

I have no enemies because I injure no man (or woman) for any cause, but I try to benefit all with whom I come in contact, by teaching them the way to enduring riches.

I have more material wealth than I need, because I am free from greed and covet only the material things I can use while I live.

The Creed

THE CREED
From the Law of Success by Napoleon Hill

I believe in myself. I believe in those who work with me.
I believe in my employer. I believe in my friends. I believe in my family. I believe that G-d will lend me everything I need with which to succeed if I do my best to earn it through faithful and honest service. I believe in prayer, and I will never close my eyes in sleep without praying for divine guidance to the end that I will be patient with other people and tolerant with those who do not believe as I do. I believe that success is the result of intelligent effort and does not depend upon luck or sharp practices or double-crossing friends, fellowmen, or my employer. I believe I will get out of life exactly what I put into it; therefore, I will be careful to conduct myself toward others as I would want them to act toward me.

I will not slander those whom I do not like. I will not slight my work no matter what I may see others doing. I will render the best service of which I am capable because I have pledged myself to succeed in life and I know that success is always the result of conscientious and efficient effort. Finally, I will forgive those who offend me because I realize that I will sometimes offend others and I will need their forgiveness.

Random Acts of Kindness

Random Acts of Kindness

by Joyce E. Barrie

Thank-you OPRAH!   "RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS" was something you addressed on one of your inspiring shows, dedicated to making a profound difference in the world.  From that day, that concept has lived inside me and I always look for opportunities where I can help someone, do something, give something to make the world a little bit better for another human being.  I reflect on what a "wonderful world it 'really' would be" if each and every one of us had it on our hearts to do likewise.
Let us STOP and look for a moment at what is making headlines every day.  It's those horrific "acts of violence," from the tragic demise of President Abe Lincoln, to the horrible assassinations of our beloved President, John F. Kennedy, his brother Attorney General, Robert Kennedy, and Civil Rights leader, Martin Luther King.

Then there is the senseless killing of Beatle legend, John Lennon, tragically shot to death.  Can we even begin to understand how another great superstar, Selina, could be shot by the President of her very own fan club?  This amazingly talented singer was killed at the height of her career, at age 24.  Notable and highly respected international clothing designer, Versace, likewise shot to death in yet another senseless killing.  (When does killing ever make sense, anyway!)

So, what is the point!?!  The above mentioned tragedies received worldwide attention because they were all famous people, powerful people in the public spotlight.  What about all the completely senseless killings, and random acts of violence that happen to "regular" folks?  what about the abuse of children?  What about the emotional and physical abuse between husbands and wives?  What about the still ongoing discrimination against blacks, Jews, homosexuals, and other human beings that are too old, too sick, too weak, or too--whatever?  What about all of them?  Why can't they be treated with the kind of respect that any human being deserves?

It really is such a gross injustice to harm people for any reason.  Vicious, greedy people tried to destroy Werner Erhard, an extraordinary man, dedicated to making a profound difference in the world through brilliant transformational technology and powerful charitable endeavors, such as the pursuit to end world hunger.  No matter how hard they tried to destroy the man, they were never able to destroy his message.

Let us STOP once and for all the abuse of all people.  Let us look within our homes, our offices, our communities, our cities, states and governments.  Let us look worldwide, and see the part we can play to make positive changes.

Why can't we respect each other and try to understand our differences?  Why can't the Arabs and Israelis set the supreme example for world peace?  Why can't we end the oppression for the people of Tibet, and free them to live their lives as they choose, without domination or interference by anyone?  Why can't we all join together and have a world that works for everyone?

Why abuse anyone, especially the defenseless?  Why is there still the double standard?  Why is there so much hate?  Why are there gangs whose only purpose is to maim and hurt others?  Why is there still such a widespread use and dependency on drugs?  Why do people still drink and drive?  What about stray bullets killing innocent young children that haven't even begun to live yet?  Why did all this begin?  When will it ever end?

Is this making you depressed?  Hopefully, it is making you STOP and think...I truly hope so--because now you have a choice, actually three choices--(1) you can do nothing; (2) you can choose to do something, but you will procrastinate because you do not get the urgency; or (3) you can go into action NOW!!!

I personally do not expect to save humankind by this plea.  I believe, however that we can and we must make small beginnings.  This brings to mind, the delightful grandmother who loved to put quarters in expired meters to save the car owners from getting fines.  Policemen took this gentle lady in handcuffs to the police station and booked her for obstructing justice!  Given all the crimes taking place everywhere, this is ridiculous!  This was a lovely display of a "Random Act of Kindness" by a lady who simply wanted to help another human being.  What difference whose token goes into a meter!  It's like an unknown driver ahead of you approaching a tunnel who pays for you.  I think it's random acts like those that make life fun, and show people do care...randomly.

Then, there is Ted Turner who just contributed $1 billion to UN charities.  He is putting the message out to very wealthy people who can afford to give significant contributions to help others a lot less fortunate.

Robert Kennedy said "I want this country to stand for compassion, love and peace".  So do I.  So should you.  I ask you--yes, you--to please, please think about what you can do NOW to make the world a better place...even a little better!!!

What do you do without cash or credit? BARTER

BARTER
  by Joyce E. Barrie

WHAT?
What Is Barter?

Barter is simply the exchange of goods or services for trade rather than for cash.  The one-on-one concept of barter is simply a trade between two people of what they wish to offer each other without using cash as the medium of exchange.  Sophisticated, computerized barter lets you trade your products and services with other clients through a nationwide network.

The acceptance of barter as a highly profitable way of doing business is most evident by the fact that barter now accounts for almost $700 billion in world commerce.  There are some very respectable barter companies whose purpose is to bring together business and professional people who are willing to exchange the products and services they sell for products and services they need to operate and expand their business, without the availability of cash.  Barter organizations make this possible through their vast networking capability.

HOW?
How Does Barter Work?

On the one-on-one level, it is as simple as you telling me you would like to do my taxes this year in exchange for a professional consulting session with me.  If we both agree on this exchange of services, we have bartered.  If you and I pay cash to each other for our respective services (even if the dollar value is identical) it is not a barter situation.

On a more sophisticated level, if you want to acquire some product(s) or services, and you don't have a cash flow and/or you have no idea of which company will barter with you, you can simplify the process by joining a professional barter organization.  The barter company as a clearing house for the goods and services of its members.  You can join a national barter organization by paying a one-time membership fee of $495, then it's $6 a month in barter and it's 10% cash for any purchase.  There is no transaction charge on the sell side.  The annual renewal fee is $60 cash and $90 on trade.  Other barter companies have similar sign-up fees, yet may charge you 5% cash for any purchase and 5% for any sale.  These fees are small compared to the tremendous leverage you have in purchasing power.

WHY?
Why Barter?

First and foremost:  You significantly increase your purchasing power and conserve cash by making purchases using the barter system instead of cash.  Second: Additional business.  The barter community will bypass the cash competition to barter with you.  This might even generate referrals that pay you in cash.  Third: Increase  your cash intake.  You can barter advertising, brochures, print and direct mail to bring new cash customer your way.

WHO?
Who Barters?

Countries, corporations, retailers, business owners and individuals are involved in this cashless exchange their merchandise for what they need from the barter network.  Individuals exchange their respective services with each other.  For example, I would be willing to barter professional seminars for a color computer scanner, telemarketers, graphic artists, professional organizers, a great dentist, book agent, computer teacher, fitness trainer, professional meeting rooms, a private office and/or loft space for scheduled classes.  I would also be willing to barter my services for a matchmaker (who has time to look!?!)

How about you?  If you are advertising, have a retail store or restaurant, have computer and/or fax machines, supply printing services, you are a prime candidate for the barter network.  Unfortunately, not everyone is accepted as a member.  Honorable barter companies are committed to the success of their members.  They will decline your application if they already have enough members offering what you wish to offer.  If you would like more information on bartering or would like to join a barter organization, email me at: coachcorner@aol.com
